The GMAT test is the most widely used test for MBA admissions in the world, accepted by more than 6000 business and management programs in over 1600 institutions. For decades it has been and continues to be the go-to test for anyone considering business graduate school. Unfortunately, it also has a reputation for being challenging. Never fear, we can make it easier for you!

GMAT Verbal

The Verbal section of the GMAT is 75 minutes long and is comprised of 41 questions. It constitutes half the all-important 200 to 800 GMAT score. It is comprised of three major question types, each approximately a third of the total questions: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Correction, and Critical Reasoning. Since the question types are spread out during the exam, you need to be proficient in all three major question types as well as all the subtypes for each.

Sentence Correction (SC)

This leaves Sentence Corrections as the best area for quick improvement on the GMAT verbal.

A little more than a third of the verbal questions are Sentence Correction questions, about 14 to 16 question in total. This question tests correctness and effectiveness of expression. In choosing your answer, follow the requirements of standard written English; that is, pay attention to grammar, choice of words, and sentence construction. Choose the answer that produces the most effective sentence; this answer should be clear and exact, without awkwardness, ambiguity, redundancy, or grammatical error.

SC questions are eminently trainable. These questions are your best bet for quick improvement in the GMAT verbal section.

Reading Comprehension (RC)

About a third of all verbal questions are RC. You will get 4 passages, each with 3-4 questions. That is 12 to 14 questions. Most likely you will have one long passage (300+ words) and 3 short ones (200+ words). If you are unlucky you may get hit with 2 long passages. The topics are pretty standard: natural or social sciences, humanities, and business. Most likely you’ll get one question that is a general main idea/purpose question. Other question types include: specific purpose, inference, analogy, tone, and structure.

Critical Reasoning (CR)

Critical Reasoning makes up around 13 questions on the verbal section. The questions deal with a range of logical argumentation issues centered around identifying the structure and components of an argument, common flaws of argumentation, and understanding how additional information affects the argument. These question types are unfamiliar to most test takers and may be underestimated because they look straight forward. However, without a proper approach they can be quite challenging.

GMAT Quantitative

The Quantitative section of the GMAT is 75 minutes long and is comprised of 37 questions. It makes up half of the all-important 200 to 800 GMAT score. It is comprised of two major question types, Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency. There are a few more Problem Solving questions than Data Sufficiency questions. The math topics covered are pretty fundamental. It’s mostly standard high school level math: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and a few miscellaneous topics. The question types and topics are spread out during the exam. You need to have a solid foundation in the fundamental math topics and the mechanics of both question types.

GMAT Quant Standard

If it has been a while since you have done any math, this is the course you should start with before jumping into the Advanced math course. We review all the core math concepts tested. For arithmetic, it's number properties, fractions, ratios and proportions, percents, exponents, basic statistics, etc. The algebra involves some factoring, inequalities, basic functions, etc. Geometry is fairly basic, with no proofs; lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, simple solids, and coordinate geometry. We also make sure you are comfortable with the question mechanics for both Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency.

GMAT Quant Advanced

While the math concepts tested on the GMAT Quantitative section really are basic, the questions themselves can be quite complicated and confusing. GMAC wants to test how strong are your quantitative skills. It's a rigorous test of your fundamental math ability. A lot of questions take something simple and give it a twist. Simple concepts are tested in novel ways. Data Sufficiency questions are notorious for this.

To take this course you should already be comfortable with the core math concepts. We will train you by focusing on questions mechanics and advanced questions.
